I did 7 km no stop run today. I am running since few months and can feel how things have changed and improved from 800 mtrs runnung to tiredness to 7 km run with good energy buffer left yet. Bit of learning/experience which I would like to share..
1. Running? Hmm, pretty close to meditation. Obviously, initially, you need to put little hard but once you are in, you can go on. You will have thoughts flowing at the start but by the end you won't even know what you were thinking n just breath. Avoid listening music while you run.
2. Endurance and stamina? Nah..I felt it's more the game of rhythm , breathing and will power. Will power is so vital here.
3. Well, you do need fitness but even if you are tired in first 2 km, you can still carry on for more than double just on will-power. Yeah!! Thresholds sometime doesn't apply on our body :).
4. How much you can run. Well just no limit I guess. Kenya/euthopian runners runs 100 miles a week. Milind Soman had run from mumbai to delhi with 60kms daily run. Tarahumara tribes from Mexico runs barefoot 700+ kms in ard 2 days. So almost no limit.
5. Nutritions? Well obviously it's good if you have protein diet but do not eat them unnecessarily. No supplements are required if you are taking proper home food. It's true. Having dal, green vegetables and rotis, milk n fruits are good enough. These african long runners runs on tea bread for 50+ km, it's different matter they don't have enough food for run.
6. Shoes? Try to make it as flat as possible. No cusions on your ankle. Do barefoot run if possible. This is scientifically proven that barefoot run gives lesser injuries while long runs. Companies have also come up with barefoot shoes. I wanted to have a pair but little costly. Hope my wife will gift me soon ;)
7. Always good to have pre and post drill or light exercise session of 10 mins, sort of warm up or a bit of yoga.
I started running around a km few months back which I could extend to 7 km one shot run and will be taking up ahead for longer distance for sure. Let's see. Run for yourself. It's fun. I read somewhere, there are hardly any cases for heart issues if you run consistent. Do not underestimate the limit of your body. Be scientific, listen doctors but also know that science may not be knowing even 1% of how your body works. There are so many exceptions around. Keep in mind that your body is too sophisticated gift you have ever got. And you will get it just once. So take care of it nicely.
E n j o y !!
